If you’re like many business leaders I know, you do things at work each and every week that you truly enjoy…but that are really way below your pay grade. It’s part of something I call the ICDIB syndrome (more about that later). The reality is, you’re doing yourself, your direct reports, your employees, and your business a huge disservice by working below your pay grade. Read more…
Do you have one of these lousy habits?
I call them “The Eight Habits Of Highly Disorganized People.”
The most debilitating habits often manifest as forms of self-sabotage, and they operate largely under the radar.
The business leader who believes that raising product prices will drive away customers is a great example. So is a writer who procrastinates on starting her potential bestseller for fear of facing a blank page with nothing to say. In both cases, these fear-based belief systems have halted all movement forward. Despite (probably) not being based on any concrete evidence, they will create a lot of self-inflicted misery.
Many poor habits are not even recognized as “habits”. An essential step toward breaking these habits is recognizing that they actually exist.
In my experience, the eight most common negative habits holding business leaders back are:
- You allow yourself to get distracted
- You feel the need to do everything yourself
- You won’t do anything unless it can be perfect
- You make lists but don’t take action
- You don’t plan out your entire day
- You fail to measure your business metrics regularly, and effectively
- You constantly change strategies
- You are disorganized
Over the next few weeks I will elaborate on each one of these. As you go through the list, try to be as honest with yourself as possible. Are any of these habits keeping you STUCK in a repetitive loop of frustration? How would your business and life change if these behaviors and mindsets were replaced with positive habits? You might be pleasantly surprised with the outcome if you break these habits.

Impossible is not in their vocabulary
If you’re lucky, every once in a while you see something that stops you in your tracks (in a good way).
You see it, but think…”no way – that’s just impossible”.
A few days ago my son-in-law Trevor sent me this video.
I normally don’t pass along YouTube videos…but this time I felt it was worthwhile.
What you’re about to watch proves that anything is possible with razor sharp focus and accountability!
Starting around the 5:25 minute mark, the impossible becomes possible.
So many people, so many moving parts, so much space—yet so little space, and so much room for error. It’s crazy.
Enjoy!
P.S. Due to the complexity of what you’re about to see, it’s best appreciated watching it Full Screen!

Busy doesn’t cut it
I have found that what keeps way too many executives, business owners, and serious entrepreneurs from moving their business and careers forward is the THREE B’s.
They SELDOM TAKE THE TIME TO SLOW DOWN, REFLECT, AND ASK… “What’s working and what’s not working in my business/career, and WHY?”
Are you Busy Being Busy? Are you constantly putting out fires?
If you are… spending your time on low-priority tasks… instead of focusing on the high value activities that will drive your business and career forward…STOP!!!
Ask yourself “when did I last take some time to actually think about what changes can be made to make my business more successful?”
Take an hour today or tomorrow and do some initial reflecting. Make some adjustments in how you spend your day and your week. Get back on track!
As always, have a great week!
